Racks and mudguards

A fork guard that bends instead of cracking

Ours is TPU on your fork's own threads, with a steel sleeve in every hole. For Tubus and Ortlieb racks we make a plate that puts a Varia or a rear light on the 50/80 mm tab. Around racks we also make a lamp bridge and rub guards. We don't touch what holds the rack to the bike.

Section drawing through the fork arch at one M3 screw: on the left a rigid guard clamped by the screw, cracked at the hole after a stone hits its edge; on the right our TPU guard on a steel sleeve and a thin pad, bending away from the hit.
Reported by riders: rigid guards cracking at the mounting holes.Ours: a steel sleeve takes the screw's clamp load, and the TPU bends away from the stone.

Why it fails

Why rigid guards crack at the screw

The stock Zeb guard is rigid plastic with M3 screws straight through it, so every stone strike loads the plastic around the hole. That's where one rider's Zeb guard cracked, twice, and a buyer's printed Fox guard cracked at every contact point. TPU bends instead, and a steel sleeve in each hole takes the bolt load.

What we'd draw for your bike

TPU fork guard on the fork's own threads

TPU on the fork's own M3 threads with a steel sleeve in every hole, so a stone bends it and the bolts never load the plastic.

Render from behind the fork, tilted up: the blue-grey TPU guard arches over the tyre with a 24 mm gap, a raised centre spine and rolled edges, its upright mounting face behind the arch held by three stainless button-head M3 bolts on washers, M3 · 0.3 Nm between them; fork lowers, arch and tyre in clay grey.

Splash tail for an SKS mudguard

It hangs to 70 mm off the ground, and chevron ribs steer the spray to the middle, off your shoes. Two bolts hold it to the tail of your SKS; a pocket near the tip takes a reflective strip.

Render from behind and left of a front wheel, low: the blue-grey TPU tail overlaps the end of a clay mudguard with two stainless button-head bolts on wide washers and 1 Nm marked between them, thins into the flap and hangs straight down with a light-grey reflective strip near its tip; a quarter of the tyre tread at the left.

Rub guards for rack tubes

Snap-on sleeves between the pannier hooks, so the bag rubs rubber instead of your paint.

Render of a clay rack section from the front-left: a Ø10 top rail with two pannier hooks and a strut dropping between them, and four blue-grey TPU sleeves, two on the rail between the hooks and two on the strut, each with three lengthwise ribs facing the bag side.

Riders' posts

What riders posted

From forums, not from customers

  • October 2026 A second stock guard on a RockShox Zeb cracked at a lower screw, the same place as the first, and now rattles. A reply fixed the same repeat crack with rubber washers under the screws.
  • September 2026 A printed Fox 36/38 guard fit well at first. Within a few months it cracked at every contact point and got noisy whenever a stone hit it. The buyer wanted it in a softer plastic.
  • August 2026 Kross's own rack and panniers on a Kross Esker 2.0. Eight days of light touring on Rügen wore the frame and the rack down to bare aluminium. Two other Kross bikes on the trip came back the same, and replies said to put clear film on first.
  • July 2026 Romet Orkan 5 (2024) with SKS Bluemels Style mudguards. At the front, the fork's M5 holes hide under plugs and need SKS 11260 adapters. At the back, the upper bracket doesn't match the seatstays, so the owner planned to lengthen it.
  • June 2026 An Ortlieb Quick Rack L has a light tab for lights with holes 50 or 80 mm apart. The rider's old light clips onto a seatpost and has no way onto the tab.

32 rack posts and 15 mudguard posts; most rack ones need parts we don't make, listed below.

Limits

We don't make these: what to buy

We bolt to metal, to accessory threads, or where your radar's band sits today. We never make or modify brakes or steering parts, or anything that holds a rack or a child seat.

  • No eyelets and a thru-axle → Ortlieb Quick Rack, €105, with the M6-Connector, €35, or an Old Man Mountain Divide, $178, with an axle Fit KitA rack carries your luggage, so we don't make what holds it on.
  • A 12×1.5 mm thru-axle and no eyelets → Tubus thru-axle adapter, €19.92, rated 25 kgIt replaces the axle that holds your wheel in.
  • Alloy frame without upper rack bosses → Problem Solvers seat collar with rack mounts, $11.99, 31.8 or 34.9 mm, or Tubus seatstay clamps, €8.99–9.99They clamp the frame, and we don't print frame clamps.
  • Carbon frame without rack mounts → An axle rack from the first row, or bikepacking bagsA clamp can crush carbon, so we never put one on a carbon frame.
  • SKS stays on a suspension fork → SKS 11259 or 11260 adapters, €2.99–3.99 a pair, for M5 holes in the lowersA stay that comes loose can lock the wheel; see the note below.
  • Missing rear L-bracket → Honjo L-bracket, $12It holds the mudguard to the frame, so it's the mudguard maker's part.
  • A child seat → On a rack, Thule EasyFit for the Yepp Maxi, 108.82 zł; on an MTB, Kids Ride Shotgun 2.0, $209.99The seat carries your child, so we stay away from its mounts.

We don't make stays, crown bolts or P-clamps, because a stay in the spokes stops the front wheel. That's what SKS's breakaway clip is for.

FAQ

Questions before you order

Can a loose guard jam my front wheel?

A loose guard can jam the wheel, even in TPU. Steel sleeves carry the bolt clamp load. We set at least 15 mm to the tyre and check from your photos that it clears the crown and frame at full compression. Before each guard ships, we bend it by hand and check that it springs back. As of October 2026 these designs are drawn and rendered; photos of the first test prints will go on this page. A loose or bent guard can catch the tyre. If it rubs or moves, stop and check it. Check the bolts before rides, and skip sticky clay.

Why not stays or eyelet hardware?

If a front stay comes loose or a branch catches it, it can be pulled into the spokes and lock the front wheel. SKS builds an ESC safety release into its stays, which uncouples them when that happens. A printed bracket has no such release. So stays, crown bolts, eyelet adapters and P-clamps stay with the mudguard makers, and the list above names the part to buy. Our guard bolts only to the fork's own fender threads.

Can you make a rack mount for my carbon frame?

We don't clamp anything to a carbon frame. A clamp can crush a carbon tube, and the rack on it carries all your luggage. One rider printed clamps for exactly this, and the next reply wouldn't ride them even with the rack empty. Use a rack that mounts at the axle, like the Ortlieb Quick Rack with its M6-Connector or an Old Man Mountain Divide with a Fit Kit, or pack bikepacking bags instead.

Can my Varia go on the rack?

It can if your rack has a light tab with holes 50 or 80 mm apart, like a Tubus Logo Classic (50 mm) or the Ortlieb Quick Rack L. Our rack plate, €29, bolts to that tab with two M5 bolts and nylocs and lifts the radar 0, 35 or 60 mm over a trunk bag. If a wired e-bike light already sits on the tab, send a photo of it from behind, and we'll check whether the plate can share its bolts. A wedge set from your phone's level app keeps it upright and facing straight back, as Garmin asks. It's rated 160 g, so an RCT715 at 147 g fits, and the tether goes to a rack tube.

Can you make something for a child seat?

We don't make anything that bolts near a child seat's mounts, rack adapters included. The seat carries your child, so its mounts are the seat maker's job. For a Thule Yepp Maxi on a rack, Thule's EasyFit adapter costs 108.82 zł and needs a rack rated for at least 25 kg. On a mountain bike with a suspension fork, the Kids Ride Shotgun 2.0 seat is $209.99, for children of 2–5. Ask the seat maker which racks and frames it's approved for.
