Rear radar and light mounts

A Varia mount traced from your seatpost

Garmin's mount comes with rubber pads for aero and D-shaped posts. On a Venge or a Tarmac SL7, riders still had it turning. We trace your Canyon SP0077 or a post nobody lists, and print a two-piece clamp that keys to its profile. Saddle holes and rack tabs (Tubus, Ortlieb) work too.

Section drawing of a D-shaped seatpost: on the left the stock Varia bracket on Garmin's aero rubber pad and O-ring, on the right our two-piece clamp traced from the post.
In the box: a plastic cup on Garmin's rubber pad for aero posts, held by an O-ring.Ours: two halves traced from the post, 1.5 mm TPU liner, two M4 bolts into brass.

Your post

Round post? Garmin's own mount fits it, 85,90 zł / $19.99. Seat pack in the way? See the saddle arm below.

Pull the post, trace it on paper with a ruler next to it, photograph it. That's all we need.

Why it fails

Why the band turns

The stock bracket is a plastic cup on a rubber pad, held by an O-ring. On a shaped post the soft pad alone keeps the radar pointing back, yet some riders report it turning. Garmin says fit on aero and D posts varies by bike; on one Tarmac SL7 the Varia kept twisting until its owner made a pad from silicone.

Contour clamp for an aero seatpost

Two halves traced from your post, lined with TPU, closed by two M4 bolts into brass. The shape stops the turn; the bolts only close it.

Render of the charcoal two-piece clamp on a grey aero seatpost, the blue-grey TPU liner showing at the top edge, two bolt heads, MAX 150 g · 0.8 Nm on the side, a radar on its rear face and a cord tether to a saddle rail.

Radar plate for a rack's 50/80 mm tab

Bolts to the rack's light tab and steps the radar back behind a trunk bag, upright.

Render from behind: a black plate bolted to the light tab under the crossbar of a grey rack, both M5 button heads on the 80 mm holes and the 50 mm holes empty, a radar upright on it below a trunk bag, and a cord tether looped round the crossbar.

Riders' posts

What riders posted

From forums, not from customers

  • September 2026 The stock bands kept moving on a 2014 Specialized Venge with a Varia RCT715, and a mount for that post was hard to find. A printed mount made for the bike fixed it.
  • November–December 2025 Sensa seatpost. No ready-made mount fit the profile, so the rider pulled the post, traced it on paper, measured it and sent photos to a small Allegro maker. The mount came three days later, for 69 zł, and fit.
  • November 2025 Specialized Power Pro with Mirror and a Silca Mattone. The medium SWAT mount left just enough room for the bag. Other buyers of the same mount ordered the wrong size or saddle variant.
  • October 2026 A tourer bought a 10–15 L seat pack for a trip on a rental bike, then found there was no way to use it with a Varia. Another rider in the thread mounts the radar on a Topeak BackLoader and says it bounces.
  • August 2026 Magicshine Seemee 300 on a Thule Pack 'n Pedal Tour rack with a cargo bag. The strap held the light sideways and the rack's ribs left no room for a backing plate, so the rider drilled the rack and bought another mount.

24 posts in our index, November 2025 to October 2026; 16 are Etsy reviews from three shops.

Limits

We don't make these: what to buy

We bolt to metal, to accessory threads, or where your radar's band sits today. We never make or modify brakes or steering parts, or anything that holds a rack or a child seat.

  • Round seatpost → Garmin's own mount, $19.99On a round post it does the job.
  • A mount on the frame instead of the post → TONS for a Madone Gen 8, €45; it attaches to the frameWe don't touch the frame's seat clamp.
  • Carbon 7×9 mm saddle rails → Our post clamp or the saddle arm aboveWe never clamp carbon rails.
  • A seat-pack support → The one your bag's maker sellsIt carries the bag, so we don't print it.
  • A listed SWAT or Blendr saddle and you want aluminium → Framesandgear's saddle mount, €57, machined from 6061We print PA-CF and don't machine aluminium; their €57 already includes the Varia insert.

Garmin, Varia, Wahoo, Hammerhead and other names are used only to say what a part fits. We're not affiliated with them.

FAQ

Questions before you order

Will it hold on cobbles?

Both halves are traced from your post, so the post profile resists rotation. Two M4 bolts go into brass inserts, and the label gives the torque and the max device weight, 150 g (an RCT715 is 147 g). A short tether goes to the saddle rails. The first part of each new design hangs under 50 N for a minute, then goes 30 km on cobbles. We ship that design only if its bolts still hold their torque. As of October 2026 these designs are drawn and rendered; photos of the first test prints will go on this page.

Is it safe on my carbon post?

It sits on the exposed post, its lower edge at least 5 mm above the frame's seat collar, where Garmin's band would go. Only the 1.5 mm TPU liner touches the carbon. The halves close onto stops, so the squeeze on the post is set by the drawing. Tighten to the torque on the label; more can crack the clamp. We never clamp carbon saddle rails. Framesandgear, TONS and BeSmartBike sell mounts for carbon aero posts too.

Does it take an RCT715, a Bryton or a Magene?

Up to 150 g, on an insert bought for your exact device. The rear face has four M3 brass inserts in a cross, so the insert can sit at 0° or 90°. The RCT715 and 716 take Garmin's lever-lock insert; the plain quarter-turn one doesn't fit them. Bryton and Coospo need an insert verified for the exact device: some sit 90° off in a Varia socket, and Etsy buyers had their mounts turned for that. For a Magene L508 we check which way yours sits. The drawing names the insert we buy.

My seat pack covers the radar. Which one do I need?

If your saddle has accessory holes (SWAT, Blendr), the saddle arm. It hangs the radar 25, 45 or 65 mm down, set from your bag, and we check the gap with the bag loaded. If there's 40 mm of bare post below the bag, the post clamp can sit lower instead. Either way Garmin wants the radar upright, facing straight back and 250–1200 mm above the road. With a big tour pack and a rack such as a Tubus or an Ortlieb, the rack plate is the easier fit.

My post isn't listed. Now what?

Mark the saddle height with tape, pull the post, stand it on paper and draw round it, with a ruler next to the outline. A photo of that is enough to start; it's how the Sensa rider got a mount that fit. Start with model names; we mark any measurement we still need in red on the drawing, with how to take it. You pay only after you approve that drawing.

Allegro prints are cheaper. Why pay more?

They are, and they work if your post is on the seller's list. One Allegro maker even drew a Sensa mount from a rider's tracing for 69 zł, and it fit. With us you see a drawing and a fixed price before you pay, and every thread is a brass insert. If it doesn't fit, you get a refund or a better part. And if a shop sells a part that fits your bike, we send you the link instead.
